The Tampa Bay Lightning are riding high as their 2013-2014 season has kicked off with a bang. The Bolts find themselves at the top of the Atlantic Division and near the top of the Eastern Conference through their first 14 games, and many credit the Lightning’s early success to the play of goaltenders Ben Bishop and Anders Lindback.

While the Bolts haven’t officially named a number one goaltender, many believe that Bishop has earned the spot due to his 2.15 GAA and .925 save percentage, which both rank in the top 10 in the NHL.  Bishop joined WDAE’s ‘The Sports Page’ on Wednesday morning and talked about his preparation now that he’s getting the call on most nights.

“Just take it the same every time, take it game by game and don’t get too far ahead of yourself” said Bishop.  “You prepare every single game the same no matter if you’re playing once every couple months or every night.  So it’s just keeping with the same routine and stick with your guns.”

Bishop said although there is still a competition between himself and Lindback for the number one spot, they do get along and say there is a great relationship between the two of them.  Bishop also discussed how much he enjoys playing under head coach Jon Cooper who is entering his first full season behind the bench for the Bolts.

“He’s (Cooper) a very passionate guy, he hates losing” said Bishop.  “You kind of take it another level.  He’s calm and tense at the same time which I thinks helps guys out.  He’s not afraid to say what he’s thinking and so far he’s been a lot of fun to play for."
