With NFL free agency and the draft right around the corner, the conversations about the Buccaneers future at the quarterback position are beginning to heat up after 13 games with rookie Mike Glennon at the helm.  With such names as Michael Vick, Chad Henne, and former Buccaneers signal caller Josh Freeman on the market for a potential signing could the Buccaneers be thinking about bringing in a seasoned NFL QB to compete with Glennon for the starting job in Tampa Bay?

Another name on the quarterback market arose yesterday with reports that Matt Cassel will void his 2014 contract with the Minnesota Vikings to test the free agency waters.  Could Cassel be an option for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

NFL Network analyst Brian Billick believes Cassel isn’t that much of an upgrade over Mike Glennon as he told WDAE’s ‘The Ron and Ian Show.’

“Matt Cassel can certainly play in this league” said Billick.  “You’re kind of seeing the same things in a Mike Glennon for my money.  Matt Cassel only had 250 throws this year because of obviously where he was and the lack of playing time (in Minnesota).  He (Cassel) threw nine interceptions in those 250 throws, Mike Glennon had over 400 throws and had only nine interceptions.”

Billick believes the Buccaneers need to look deep at what they currently have with Mike Glennon and compare it to what the franchise could get in free agency and the NFL draft.  He also says that the Buccaneers could stand pat and give Glennon a chance in 2014 to see if he could indeed be the long term answer in Tampa Bay.
