Gators Fall In Knoxville 64-58 To Tennessee

It was a dogfight all night in Knoxville as the Volunteers of Tennessee shocked the #8 Florida Gators with a 64-58 win.  The Vols led by the red hot 6’5 junior guard Jordan McRae with 27 points as Tennessee wins their sixth straight as Billy Donovan’s group falls for the fifth time this season.

McRae who came in averaging 28.5 points per game in his last two games showcased his skills on a short handed Gators team.  Florida was without Michael Frazier II who suffered a concussion in Saturday night’s game against Arkansas.  The Gators were also without Will Yeguete for a sixth straight game, leaving Donovan with an eight-man squad for the contest.

Florida jumped out to an early lead on the road starting the game on a 10-2 run, the lead would not last long as Jordon McRae went to work.  McRae scored 17 of the Vols 35 first half points, including at one point scoring eight straight points for the Vols.  McRae didn’t slow down in the second half as he continued to pour it on the Gators.

The Gators simply didn’t match up well in the paint as the aggressive Vols dominated the boards with 40 to the Gators 29, including 13 offensive rebounds.  Tennessee’s three point lead only needed time in the second half to grow up to a lead of eight as Tennessee hands the Gators a tough loss on the road.

Mike Rosario led the Gators with 16 points.  Patric Young finished with 15 for Florida, and Kenny Boynton with a rough night scoring only 2 points on 1-7 shooting.   The Gators fall to 5-5 on the season when they score less than 70 points in a game (17-0 when scoring 70+).  Florida has lost two of its last three games.

The Gators (22-5, 12-3 SEC) will look to rebound at home on Saturday afternoon against Alabama.  You can hear the game on 1250am WHNZ beginning at 11:25am.
