The Tampa Bay Rays win streak was undone by a young prospect making his Major League debut.

Jarred Cosart threw eight shutout innings, and the four singles Houston got in the first inning provided all the offense the Astros would need in a 2-1 win over Tampa Bay Friday at Tropicana Field.

David Price stumbled in the first inning, allowing an infield hit to Jake Elmore to start the game.  Two batters later, Chris Carter singled to move Elmore up a base, and J.D. Martinez followed with a single to load the bases.  Carlos Corporan would then give Houston all the offense they would need, bringing in Elmore and Carter for a 2-0 lead.

Price (3-5) would allow just four hits the rest of the game, going the distance.

Cosart (1-0), meanwhile, was perfect through the first three innings before walking Desmond Jennings to start the fourth inning.  He didn't allow a hit until Ben Zobrist's single with one out in the seventh, and remained in the game until walking pinch-hitter Kelly Johnson to lead off the ninth.

Manager Bo Porter turned to his closer Jose Veras following the walk to Johnson, who got Yunel Escobar to ground into a double play.  However, Jennings reached on a throwing error by Elmore, took second base on defensive indifference, and scored on a single by Luke Scott to cut the deficit in half.

A single by Ben Zobrist moved pinch-runner Sam Fuld to third base, but Evan Longoria struck out looking to end the game.

Tampa Bay will look to start a new win streak Saturday, when Roberto Hernandez (4-10, 4.93 ERA) takes on Dallas Keuchel (4-5, 4.59 ERA).  First pitch is set for 4:10, with coverage on 620 WDAE and 95.3 FM starting at 3:00 with the Suncoast Hyundai Dealers Inside Pitch.
