The Tampa Bay Rays have set their 25-man roster for the start of the 2013 regular season.
DH Luke Scott, who has been diagnosed with a right calf strain and placed on th 15-day disabled list, will be replaced on the roster by Shelley Duncan, who had his contract purchased from Triple-A Durham.
In addition, reliever Jamey Wright also had his minor-league contract purchased, adding him officially to the 25-man roster. To make room for both men on the 40-man roster, catchers Stephen Vogt and Robinson Chirinos have been designated for assignment.
Reliever Juan Carlos Oviedo also had his contract purchased, but was immediately placed on the 60-day disabled list. Oviedo is coming off Tommy John surgery and is not expected to play this season.
The Opening Day roster consists of:
Pitchers (12): Alex Cobb, Kyle Farnsworth, Jeremy Hellickson, Roberto Hernandez, Jake McGee, Matt Moore, Jeff Niemann, Joel Peralta, David Price, Cesar Ramos, Fernando Rodney, Jamey Wright
Catchers (2): Jose Lobaton, Jose Molina
Infielders (7): Shelley Duncan, Yunel Escobar, Kelly Johnson, James Loney, Evan Longoria, Ryan Roberts, Sean Rodriguez
Outfielders (4): Sam Fuld, Desmond Jennings, Matt Joyce, Ben Zobrist
