Forty-four teenage boys from the Greek Orthodox community will dive for a cross thrown in the waters of Spring Bayou by the Arch Bishop.
Spokeswoman Johanna Kossifidis explains the purpose of the celebration saying “Epiphany is celebrated every year on January 6th and it’s actually a commemoration of the Baptism of Jesus Christ.”
The boys who will dive for the cross are setting up the dingys in Spring Bayou Friday.
There will be a blessing of the fleet at the Sponge Docks on Sunday and the dive for the cross will happen about on Monday.
Twenty to 30,000 people are expected to attend.
