Governor Taking Second Look At Common Core

Florida Governor Rick Scott has said the state will pull out of a national test for school children to see if they are reaching standards in certain subjects.  Scott is also calling for public hearings and other steps to quell the controversy around the new Common Core State Standards.

In a letter to the U.S. Department of Education Secretary, Governor Scott said Florida would develop its own high stakes tests that will be used to measure how well students fare on the standards.

Common Core has come under increasing fire from conservative groups and some republicans, despite having a strong backing from former Governor Jeb Bush.
