ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Spring training is over. The season has begun.
Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Rays open the season at Tropicana Field against the Baltimore Orioles in front of a sell out crowd. First pitch is at 3:10. 620 WDAE will carry the gave live beginning with a 2:30 pre-game show.
For the occasion, there'll be a block party beginning at noon in front of Ferg's Sports Bar on Central Avenue next to Tropicana Field. There'll be plenty of food, beer and entertainment.
Tropicana Field parking lots open at 11 a.m. There is also parking at the South Core and BayWalk parking garages with a free shuttle service to and from The Trop. That shuttle will run continuously every ten minutes until an hour after the game ends.
St. Pete Mayor Bill Foster says he has high expectations--not only for the team, but the fans.
"If everybody who went to a game last year would just add one more game, we'd see two million annually and it's a really good start as we look to the future of baseball in Tampa Bay."
