Lakeland Police results of no confidence vote

LAKELAND, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Lakeland Police said based on an anonymous letter sent to West Coast Florida Police Benevolent President, Nick Marolda, a straw poll was taken to see if there was an interest in taking a formal vote of no confidence on Police Chief Lisa Womack.

On January 21 and 22, 2014, police said the union conducted a non-binding vote with the results being 80 casting a vote of confidence in the police chief and 80 casting a vote of no confidence.

In addition, police said non-sworn employees and sworn members who are not a part of the union chose to have their voice heard and conducted a separate vote and the results of this vote were 43 casting a vote of confidence in the police chief and 72 casting a vote of no confidence.

Police said Chief Womack always welcomes input and opinions and feels it is important that every employee, both sworn and non-sworn, had the opportunity to be heard and she is eager to continue moving the agency forward.
