Man faces charge after club parking lot shooting

TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Hillsborough deputies say a teenager is facing a second degree murder charge after a woman was shot in the parking lot of a club Sunday.

Just after 3 a.m. deputies said 49-year-old Maribel Sanchez-Garza of Plant City was shot in the parking lot of Club 301 located at 8222 US Hwy 301 in Tampa.

Witnesses identified a white, 4-door vehicle traveling northbound on 301 as the suspect vehicle, deputies said, and identified a Hispanic male who had been pepper sprayed and ejected by security, as the suspect shooting from the back driver's side of the vehicle.  Deputies say they identified the suspect as 18-year-old Dougie Glidden of Dover.

Video surveillance shows the suspect leaving and smashing out the passenger side window of a white truck, using his forearms and fists, deputies said. The suspect suffered severe cuts and lacerations and began bleeding profusely. They also said a blood trail led to a back parking area where a .380 casing and projectile were found. Video surveillance then shows a white SUV leaving the scene, heading northbound on 301 and passing in front of the nightclub. Deputies said the suspect then fired 5-6 shots in the direction of the club.

Late Sunday around 4:30 p.m., deputies said the suspect entered the South Florida Baptist Hospital with severe lacerations and bruising to his arms and fists and made statements indicating he was the subject that had been pepper sprayed and had broken the window.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the suspect's home and located a taurus .380 in his bedroom, as well as bloody clothing worn at the club, officials said, and the white SUV was located at a friend's house and impounded. Glidden was arrested and faces one count of second degree murder, officials said.
