The Clearwater Police Department set up a new fraud hotline for residents to combat scammers trying to take their money with fraudulent schemes. Residents can call if they have questions about a particular offer or program before they spend their money or become a victim of a crime. Detective Meg Hasty says telephone scams are popular ways for people to get your vital information to steal your identity. Hasty says never do business with someone you don't know or with someone who approaches you unsolicted at your home or on the street. The hotline will be staffed weekdays from 8am-4pm. If you call any other time, you can leave a message and someone will call you back.
The number is 727-562-4424
However, if you feel you have already been victimized by a scam you need to report it to Clearwater Police by calling 727-562-4242.
