TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - It's December 26th. A reminder that new water restrictions take effect for much of the Bay Area.
Beginning this morning, residents in Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas Counties can only water their lawns once a week. That's a change from twice a week irrigation rules that have been in place since this past summer.
The Southwest Water Management District says surface water levels, like local rivers, are down. Rainfall is scarce because we're in the dry season. And the region's reservoir is off line because of repairs.
The new water restrictions will remain in place through March 1st.
