Clearwater, Fla.-(970 WFLA)-Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri has ordered a review of jail booking and classification procedures after the death of an inmate.
The review comes after inmate Kelly Harding was found unresponsive in his cell. Harding died later at the hospital. Harding's cellmate Scott Greenberg is charged with the strangulation death.
Sheriff Gualtieri admits a mistake was made when Harding was put in the same cell as a man charged with murder. Harding had been sentenced for a misdemeaner.
The jail review will determine exactly how and why Harding was not reclassified from a pre-trial felony detainee. The review is expected to result in recommendations on revisions to jail operating procedures. A final report is expected to be completed within the next 60 days.
