Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - With the popularity of social media in law enforcement and ever improving technology, the Tampa Police Department is taking the next step in digital crime fighting with a state of the art mobile app.
TPD worked with Cloud Space Mobile to create the app customized to the department's specific needs.
Citizens can report crime tips, neighborhood issues, check out unsolved crimes, Tampa's most wanted and contact their school resource officer.
They can also create a digital library with photos and serial numbers of their valuable electronics, jewelry, family heirlooms, etc. This information can be emailed directly from the app to law enforcement should citizens ever become victims of crime. This information will help law enforcement solve the crime and can be useful for insurance purposes.
People can even submit photo tips through the mobile app.
One of the key features of the app is that citizens can submit information either with their name or anonymously.
The department's goal in working with Cloud Space Mobile was to create a user friendly, informational app where citizens could reach out to the officers with information to keep their community safe.
The partnerships with our citizens have been a key to our crime fighting success and the mobile app will create a new way for our citizens to interact with our officers.
TPD's mobile app is available in the iTunes and Google Play store. The app will be updated regularly with new features.
**A reminder to those using the mobile app - emergencies should be reported through 911, not the mobile app.
