The 3-foot-wide tree, with a rotten base, fell down around 2 a.m. Friday at the King Arthur's Court community in Dunedin. A National Weather Service forecaster says winds were gusting around 40 miles per hour at the time.
"The biggest noise I've ever heard in my life," said resident Caroline Bradley. "We thought it was lightning. We thought it was a car accident. It wasn't any of those. It was a big fat tree that fell on my house. It missed our heads by what? A foot."
