The job that Lightning head coach Jon Cooper has done with the Bolts since losing Steven Stamkos to a broken leg has not gone unnoticed throughout the league.

In his midseason edition of "Trophy Trackers," NHL.com deputy managing editor Brian Compton says the performance of the Lightning has Cooper as the front-runner for the Jack Adams Award, given annually to the league's coach of the year.

Compton points out that the Lightning, who were 12-4-0 when Stamkos suffered his injury, have gone 14-8-4 since November 11, and are just two points behind Boston for the lead in the Atlantic Division.

"It's for those reasons and more," Compton explains, "why Cooper finds himself winning the race to the Jack Adams Award midway through the 2013-14 season.
