Ryan Getzlaf’s rebound shot with five seconds left in overtime proved to be the only tally in an amazing display of goaltending on Friday night in Anaheim as the Ducks beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 1-0. Ben Bishop and Ducks’ goaltender Jonas Hiller were spectacular in net for their respective teams as the two combined for 71 saves on the night, including a season high 42 for Bishop.
The Lightning in the loss however earned their only point during a short four game west coast road trip, and now have only scored three goals in their last three games. The Bolts also found trouble on the power play as they finish the road trip only managing a single goal on thirteen opportunities, including 0-6 in Anaheim.
The Lightning now have dropped their fourth game in a row as the injury bug continues to bite the Bolts. Radko Gudas left the game in the first period following a five minute fighting penalty and did not return. The Lightning reported that Gudas suffered a upper body injury and will be evaluated when the team returns to Tampa.
Hiller, who originally was not slated to get the start till after pre-game warm ups, finished the game with thirty saves for the Ducks as they snap a five game losing streak. This was the first time this season that the Lightning have lost a game that went to the extra period.
The Lightning will return home to face off with the New York Rangers on Monday night at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Faceoff is set for 7:30pm.
