ESPN's Burnside: "Bowness Would be A Nice Fit For Bolts"

by Ryan Adams

The Tampa Bay Lightning are looking to make a coaching change but in the Assistant role to new head coach Jon Cooper.   According to several reports, former Vancouver Canucks assistant Rick Bowness may be close to filling the need on the bench for the Bolts.  Bowness, 58, has been in the NHL for 24 years as both an assistant coach as well as a head coach, and spent the last seven years in Vancouver.

ESPN NHL columnist Scott Burnside was on with WDAE’s “The Sports Page” Monday morning to talk about Bowness as a potential addition to the Bolts staff.

"The one thing about Rick is he's been around the block maybe 10 or 12 times," Burnside said.  "And probably would be a nice fit for a guy like Jon Cooper who's gonna have to learn his way."

Bowness had his biggest success as head coach of the Boston Bruins during the 1991-1992 season taking them to the Eastern Conference Finals.
