Pierre McGuire talks trades with Ron and Ian

There have been plenty of changes over the last couple weeks inside the walls of the Lightning locker room and front office.  A new coach, Jon Cooper, looks to change the philosophy of the team and get them one last playoff push before the end of this shortened season.  Then the trade deadline came and went on Wednesday and more changes came with it.  Some of those changes left fans scratching their heads.  Pierre McGuire, national NHL insider, was on with Ron and Ian Thursday morning to talk about some of those changes, most notably, the new addition to the revolving door that is the goalie position for the Bolts, Ben Bishop, formerly of the Ottawa Senators.

"He's a starting NHL goaltender.  He's very athletic, he's huge, he's six foot seven, almost six foot eight.  He's played in a very difficult hockey market to be a goalie in with Ottawa.  He thrived there." Said McGuire this morning.

But was the trade worth it?  The Bolts gave up Cory Conacher, the rookie stand out who was putting together a solid debut season with the Lightning, as well as a 2013 fourth-round draft pick.

"You look at the price that Tampa paid," McGuire replied when asked about the trade.  "It's not a huge price to pay for an NHL established goalie."

The firing of Guy Boucher was the first of all the changes made within the Lightning organization this season.  McGuire sympathized with the former Bolts coach and says it's not easy being a coach in the NHL.

"Listen, in the NHL, I've coached there and I've been fired, too," McGuire said about the move.  "It's never fair, really.  Coaches are usually the victims of marginal scouting or poor decision making when it comes to player procurement."
