The season has not gotten off to the best of starts for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this 2013 season.  Numerous stories of players’ only meetings, MRSA infections and the benching and release of former quarterback Josh Freeman have overshadowed a 0-5 start for the pewter and red.  Now the discussion nationally has shifted to the job status of head coach Greg Schiano and if this difficult season could lead to his dismissal.

Sports Illustrated’s senior writer and NBC Sports NFL analyst Peter King joined WDAE’s ‘The Sports Page’ Thursday morning and discussed what could be the future for Schiano and the Buccaneers.

”I don’t know that any number of games can tell you right now (if Schiano stays with the team long term), I just think you’re going to know if this team is not responding to Greg Schiano then I think ownership will make a decision at the end of the year” said King. “I find it a little bit sad this whole thing.”

King elaborated the problem with Schiano could be is that he is a good head coach with a lot of promise, but in a place currently without the right personnel to be successful.

“Greg Schiano is the kind of guy who I think has got what it takes to be a very successful NFL head coach” said King.  “I understand the situation.  I understand the thing in a place like Tampa where you have to sell tickets, and once it turns it’s hard to get it turned back.  I just think Schiano’s a really talented guy and a smart guy, and it’d be a shame if he’d had only two years to build an NFL team.”
