Gators Rout Gamecocks In 39-Point Win

The No. 4 Florida Gators continue to dominate the SEC, defeating the South Carolina Gamecocks 75-36 to move to 7-0 in the conference.

22 of the Gators ponts came off Gamecocks' turnovers and the three  starting Floirda guards (Kenny Boynton, Mike Rosario, Scottie Wilbekin)  contributed 38 points total.

It took nearly three minutes for the Gators to open the scoring, but once they did, they didn't look back.

In the next three minutes, Florida went on a 11-2 run and pulled ahead to 21-4 at the half. The score could have been even more of a differential as the Gators missed several shots including nine of 16 free throws, but the defensive press forced the Gamecocks to turn the ball over 11 times at the halfway point and South Carolina was held to three field goals.

Entering the game with the highest ranking since the 2006-07 season, the Gators got it together at the break and came out a more focused team offensively.

Wilbekin's floater with 12-and-a-half minutes remaining in the game gave Florida the biggest lead of the night as they pulled ahead 55-15 and sent the crowd at the O'Connell Center home early.

The Gators won the previous six SEC matchups by an average of 26.5 points and held four teams to less than 50 points per contest. After Wednesday's rout of South Carolina, Florida increased the number to five schools that couldn't score half-a-hundred on the Orange and Blue.

Florida shot 53 percent from the field, made 12-of-21 shots from behind the arc, dominated South Carolina on the glass 38-24, and continued to force turnovers.

South Carolina shot 31 percent from the field, went 2-of-14 from 3-point range and finished with 17 turnovers.

The Gators will face their biggest conference test on Saturday as they host Ole Miss, who were handed their first SEC loss Wednesday by Kentucky. 620 WDAE will have all of the action beginning at 6:25 pm.
