Purifoy Named SEC Defensive Player of the Week

Gainesville, FL (University of Florida Communications) - University of Florida junior defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy earned the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor for his performance in the 30-10 win over Arkansas, the league office announced Monday.

 

Purifoy, a Pensacola, Fla., native, had the best game of his career, highlighted by returning his first career interception for a touchdown that gave Florida a lead which it never relinquished. He also recorded four tackles, including the first sack of his career, three pass breakups and a forced fumble against the Razorbacks. Purifoy was also key in assisting the Gator defense in notching two sacks against an Arkansas offense that was allowing just 0.6 sacks per game. He also returned two punts for 17 yards.

 

For his performance against Arkansas, Purifoy was also named the Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week, a Paul Horning Award Honoree and a College Football Performance Award Defensive Performer of the Week.

 

Next up, the Gators (4-1, 3-0 SEC) travel to Baton Rouge., to take on SEC West Rival LSU (5-1, 3-0 SEC) at 3:30 p.m.on Oct. 12. The game will be televised on CBS.
