KIERMAIER GETS CALL FOR EXTRA GAME: The Rays placed reliever Jesse Crain back on the 60-day disabled list, and purchased the contract of outfielder Kevin Kiermaier prior to Monday's game.

The right-hander, acquired at the trade deadline from the Chicago White Sox, was selected to this year's All-Star game, but did not pitch in a game with Tampa Bay.  He had been on the disabled list since June 29 with shoulder issues, though had been activated September 23.

Kiermaier, 23, hit .295 in 136 games between Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham this year.  He will likely provide additional defensive help with Desmond Jennings recovering from a hamstring issue.

MADDON TAPS SUGAR RAY FOR INSPIRATION: The Rays always have an inspirational quote on the lineup card, normally supplied by Rays fans to his Twitter feed.  Today, it was former middleweight champion Sugar Ray Robinson's turn.
