Pair of Rays named finalists for Rookie of the Year award

Rays pitcher Chris Archer and outfielder Wil Myers are both finalists for the American League Rookie of the Year.

The Tampa Bay Rays have a pair of first-year players in the running for the game's top award for rookies.

Both pitcher Chris Archer and outfielder Wil Myers have been named finalists for the American League Rookie of the Year award.

The 25-year-old righthander went 9-7 in 23 starts with Tampa Bay with a 3.22 earned run average.  In 128 2/3 innings, Archer allowed 107 hits and 49 runs (46 earned).  He walked 38 batters and struck out 101 after being called up June 1.

Myers, 23, hit .293 / .354 / .478 with 13 home runs and 53 RBI in 88 games after being called up June 18.  He was named The Sporting News top American League rookie in October and won the MLB Players Choice Award for Outstanding American League rookie Monday.

The award will be announced November 11.
