Rays barely hold on but beat Orioles 12-10

The Rays kicked off a short 6 game road-trip tonight up in Baltimore and were looking to bounce back from a rough loss and they would do it in stlye.

Tampa was able to jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the first but Jeremy Hellickson would quickly cough the lead up when Chris Davis delivered a two-run single making it a 2-1 deficit for the Rays. J.J Hardy would then tack on with a solo homerun extending the Orioles lead to 3-1.

It would not take long for the Rays to recapture the lead for good. James Loney hit a sacrifice fly to score Ben Zobrist and after Evan Longoria and Luke Scott reached, Kelly Johnson delivered a three run blast to give the Rays the lead for good, it was 5-3 after three innings.

The Rays would continue to pound on the Orioles. Yunel Escobar would go on to knock in three runs on an RBI double in the fifth and a two run scoring single in the sixth extending the lead to 12-4 in the sixth inning.

Hellickson pitched decent enough through seven but in the eighth the Orioles would climb back into the game. Matt Weiters two-run single and a three-run homerun by Chris Dickerson helped contribute in a six run inning cutting the lead of the Rays down to 12-10.

Joel Peralta came on and got a four out save to hold together what once was a 12-4 lead for the Rays who took game one on this six game road trip, 12-10 over the Orioles. Rays and Orioles are back in action tomorrow with first pitch set for 4:05 PM.
