Rays Release Homestand Info

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (Tampa Bay Rays Communications) —Following a short four-game road trip to Houston, the Tampa Bay Rays return home on Friday for a 10-game homestand leading into the All-Star break.  The Rays open up a three-game weekend set against the Chicago White Sox (July 5-7) before taking on the Minnesota Twins (July 8-11) and the Houston Astros (July 12-14).

Fans can “Turn Back the Clock” to ‘70s Night when, prior to the Rays-White Sox 7:15 p.m. game on Saturday, July 6, the first 20,000 fans will receive an Evan Longoria Retro Bobblehead presented by Bright House Networks (gates open at 5:15 p.m.).

The Rays will wear their popular retro uniforms developed last season and the White Sox will take the field in their 1974 home uniforms.  These uniforms will be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting Moffitt Cancer Center and the Rays Baseball Foundation.  See raysbaseball.com for details starting July 12.

When gates open at 11:40 a.m. for Sunday’s Rays-White Sox series finale, kids 14 and under will receive a Super Zo Utility Belt presented by Stanley (while supplies last).

The Rays and Twins kick off a four-game series on Monday, July 8 at 7:10 p.m.  The series concludes on Thursday, July 11 with a 12:10 p.m. game where kids 14 and under will receive Rays Cheer Stix (while supplies last).

The Rays-Astros series opens on Friday, July 12 at 7:10 p.m.  Throughout the series, the Rays Wives are holding a collection drive at Tropicana Field to collect new toiletries for local families in need.  The collection points will be inside Center Field Street and at Gate 5.  All items collected will be donated to the Salvation Army of St. Petersburg for “Thanksmas in July.”

At the conclusion of Saturday’s 4:10 p.m. contest against the Astros, the Rays continue the 2013 Summer Concert Series with a performance by KC & The Sunshine Band.

Harry “KC” Wayne Casey started KC & The Sunshine Band out of a Miami, Fla., record store in 1973.  Forty years later, his “Sunshine Sound” still gets audiences worldwide out of their seats and dancing.  The band’s brass-oriented disco flavor was developed through KC’s exposure to Pop, Reggae and Latin music and served as the backbone to their iconic hits—“Get Down Tonight,” “That’s the Way (I Like it),” and “Shake Your Booty.”  With over 30 albums to the band’s name, their music has long survived the Disco Era, selling over 100 million albums, and is featured on more than 200 motion picture soundtracks.  Even with the band’s songs played in arenas worldwide, KC has never forgotten his roots.  He is proud to have never moved farther than 10 miles away from his hometown of Hialeah, Fla.; saying, “Why move from an area that not only do I love, but owe so much to?”  Nearly four decades after first gaining fame, KC & The Sunshine Band is still going strong and continues to perform their enduring music in venues around the country.

On Sunday, July 14, kids 14 and under will receive a DJ Kitty Confetti Globe presented by Sagicor Life Insurance (while supplies last).  Following the game, the 2013 Summer Concert Series continues with a performance by Carly Rae Jepsen.

Canadian singer/songwriter and breakout pop sensation Carly Rae Jepsen has taken America by storm after bursting onto the scene in the U.S. with her hit single “Call Me Maybe.”  Unforgettably catchy, the hit song, which she co-wrote, quickly rose to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart where it remained for nine consecutive weeks.  Certified quintuple-platinum in Jepsen’s native Canada, the track is also an international sensation, climbing to No. 1 on the iTunes Singles charts in over 47 countries while the official video has over 400 million YouTube views and the song has sold more than 10 million singles worldwide to date.  Follow-up platinum single “Good Time,” a duet with Owl City, climbed to No. 3 on the Pop Chart.  New single “Tonight I’m Getting Over You,” which Jepsen co-wrote with its producer Max Martin, is the new single from the singer-songwriter’s debut album, Kiss, which reached the Top Ten in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the UK.  Jepsen won the 2012 American Music Award for Best New Artist and received two 2012 GRAMMY nominations for Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year. 

TAMPA BAY TIMES FAMILY FUN DAY—Every Rays Sunday home game will feature free parking for cars with four or more passengers and a variety of activities for kids on the concourse, all now free courtesy of the Tampa Bay Times.  Following the game on Sunday, July 7, don’t miss Kids Run the Bases and Wiffle Ball Home Run Derby (not available following the game on Sunday, July 14, due to the postgame concert).
