ST. PETERSBURG, FL (Tampa Bay Rays Communications) —Returning from a 10-game West Coast road trip, the Tampa Bay Rays will host the first-place Boston Red Sox (September 10-12) in a crucial three-game set. This is the final time that these American League East teams are scheduled to meet during the regular season.
The Rays currently lead the second Wild Card spot by 2.0 games over the Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Indians and trail the Red Sox by 7.5 games in the AL East. This will be the first time the clubs have met this late in the season while in first and second place since September 15-17, 2008, when the Rays won two of three games at Tropicana Field en route to winning the AL pennant.
