Rays Shutout White Sox With 3-0 Win

BY: John Mamola

Matt Moore makes it four wins in his last four starts as the Tampa Bay Rays shut out the Chicago White Sox 3-0 in primetime Saturday night.  Moore shut down the struggling Chicago offense pitching 6 1/3 innings without allowing a run on five hits, and striking out six.

Moore got all the run support he would need in the second inning as a pitchers duel with White Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale broke out at Tropicana Field.  Luke Scott broke open the Rays offense with an RBI single to make it 1-0 Tampa Bay, only to be followed by a Desmond Jennings RBI ground out putting the Rays in front 2-0.

Moore did run into some trouble in a few innings early, but settled in quite nicely in his later innings.  Moore retired six of the last seven batters he faced before being replaced by Jake McGee in the top of the seventh inning.

Sam Fuld added an RBI single of his own in the Rays half of the sixth inning to put Tampa Bay up 3-0.  The Rays bullpen of Jake McGee, Joel Peralta, and Fernando Rodney sealed the shutout win with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless pitching.  Fernando Rodney earned his 19th save and is ten for his last ten opportunities.  Moore earns his 12th win of the season which leads the American League.

The Rays will look for a sweep of the last place White Sox tomorrow afternoon as they send David Price to the hill to face off with John Danks.  You can catch all the action on 620AM/95.3FM WDAE beginning with a 1:00pm Pre-Game, and a 1:40pm first pitch.
