David Price earned is first win of the season on Sunday afternoon, but it’s being overshadowed by the 7th inning ejection of Rays starter Jeremy Hellickson. After a questionable ball call on 1-2 pitch by Price in to Dwayne Wise in the White Sox half of the seventh inning, Price was visibly upset with the call by home plate umpire Tom Hallion. The following pitch was a ground out to Price to end the inning, and Price was seen yelling back towards Hallion as he walked to and into the dugout.
The account of exactly what happened and who said what is where this story picks up.
David Price told reporters following the game that Hallion told him to “throw the ball over the f***ing plate” and said for Hallion to do that was “terrible.”
"For him to talk to me that way, something has to be done about that” said Price.
Hallion had a different account of the ejection, saying he did not use a profanity to Price and calling Price a ‘liar.’ "I'll come right out bluntly and say he's a liar," Hallion said, voice raised. "I'm denying what he said I said, pretty strongly. I said, 'Just throw the ball.' That's all I said to him."
Hallion went on to say that Price’s body language insinuated that Price was indeed “pissed off.”
The Rays starter then took to twitter with additional comments about Hallion calling him a liar.
