Four Canadians that come to the Tampa Bay Area every year to fish were in for quite a surprise this weekend when they came in contact with a reported 18-foot Great White Shark 30 miles off the coast of Treasure Island.
The friends chartered a 32-foot boat through Go Fast Fishing Charters, a company whose captains have been on the water for years. Even this was a shock for them, according to captain Joe Maisano.
“I’ve never seen one out here before. Heard a couple stories about them but that was the first time I’ve actually seen it in person,” said Maisano.
Due to the dangerious nature of the shark and the fact that it is a protected species, the fishermen cut the line and let the shark go.
