If you believe that the Washington Redskins will be changing their name anytime soon, you have another thing coming according to Redskins’ Owner Dan Snyder. Snyder telling USA Today that he has no plans on changing the name of the 81 year old franchise anytime soon.
"We will never change the name of the team," Snyder told USA TODAY Sports. "As a lifelong Redskins fan, and I think that the Redskins fans understand the great tradition and what it's all about and what it means, so we feel pretty fortunate to be just working on next season."
The name of the team has been under almost annual scrutiny being that some consider “Redskins” to be a derogatory term for Native Americans. In fact opponents recently launched a new round of legal proceedings intended to deny the team federal trademark protection.
Synder telling USA Today "We'll never change the name," he said. "It's that simple. NEVER — you can use caps."
